SL 63 AMG: The Merc We Sometimes Forget

It may be a little ugly and heavy, but the SL 63 AMG has a few tricks up its sleeves.

Let’s face it, the Mercedes SL 63 AMG is often overshadowed by the SLS AMG. The latter is prettier, more exotic and even more powerful. The SL 63, on the other hand, has even been called a bit ugly by some. However, it still carries that historic Mercedes SL-Class nameplate. With nearly 60 years of history behind it, this grand tourer remains the object of many peoples’ affections. But now that the geniuses over at AMG have gotten their hands on this latest SL-Class, it’s time to give the car a second look.

The guys over at XCAR have just taken the SL 63 AMG out for a little spin and quickly realized there was more there than meets the eye. With over 550 horsepower available, the SL 63 AMG is a true high-performance machine. But is the SLS AMG still the preferred enthusiast’s choice?
