The MC20 is arguably Maserati's most important new model in years. While it won't generate massive sales like the upcoming Grecale crossover, the MC20 is a halo car that will help increase Maserati's worldwide appeal. Despite costing over $200,000, the MC20 is already sold out for the 2022 model year.

It's a promising start for Maserati's new supercar, but unfortunately, like many new models, the MC20 is suffering from a teething issue. In this case, Maserati has discovered a problem with the MC20's new in-house developed 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6's fuel delivery system. Notably, this is the first Maserati in two decades with an engine that was not developed by Ferrari.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a fuel line sensor housing may leak fuel and cause the engine to stall or reduce performance. In some cases, the fuel leak could also cause a fire. As a result, Maserati is issuing a voluntary recall for affected MC20s to fix this potentially serious defect.

The 2021 Quattroporte, 2021 Ghibli, and 2021-2022 Levante are also affected by this problem. Since the MC20 was only recently launched, only four examples are affected. In total, 409 models are being recalled including 274 2021 and 2022 Levantes, 88 2021 Ghiblis, and 43 2021 Quattroporte sedans. Fortunately, no accidents or injuries have been reported relating to this issue.

Levantes that are being recalled were built between September 18, 2020, and October 4, 2021, while affected Ghiblis were built between November 3, 2020, and June 7, 2021. Affected Quattroporte models were built between October 28, 2020, and June 7, 2021, while the four MC20s were built between July 12 and September 29, 2021.

Maserati became aware of the issue on October 8 and issued a voluntary recall on November 4 following an internal investigation, so you have to commend the automaker for acting fast. Maserati will notify affected owners on December 27 and will replace the faulty fuel line sensor housing free of charge.
