There's no denying it any longer: the automotive world is going electric, and faster than we expected. Most major brands have announced their plans to go full-electric before the end of the decade, and a large number of new manufacturers are popping up, hoping to stake a claim in a market that is set to explode. We all know that Tesla still dominates with cars such as the Model 3, and we're starting to see a trend where its powertrains are being used in all kinds of crazy swaps. The latest swap is a pretty interesting one: dumping the powertrain from a Model 3 into the body of a 1950 Jaguar Mark V.

While there is a ton of custom work to be done, the man behind the build decides to start with installing the powertrain, even though he admits that it will all have to come out again for further prep work. This build is also interesting as the Model 3's subframes will also be used. This means the 1950's Jag will get a nice suspension and brake upgrade at the same time as getting its heart transplant. The swap is proving to be more complicated as first thought: mounting the subframe in the front requires a ton of material to be cut away, potentially weakening the chassis. The Jaguar has since be scanned in CAD, which has made the design process much easier.

A big part of this build is adding support and bracing to the chassis all while making stuff fit, as this will add rigidity to a car that in stock form loves to roll around corners like a beached whale. The frame will be reinforced in the rear, and the old leaf spring suspension in the back makes way for a coilover setup. At the end of the video, a set of Tesla wheels are added to judge fitment, and they look fantastic. In the next part of this build series, we'll see the battery system and how to control the Tesla Model 3's motor. This is a build we'll want to keep an eye on.
