If you can't afford the sports car of your dreams, there are plenty of companies out there that can build you a replica. Some are more convincing than others: we've all seen horrific Ferrari replicas based on Pontiac Fierios that won't fool anyone. This latest replica comes from Dream Customs India. To the untrained eye, it may look like a classic 1969 Ford Mustang, but under the skin is a 2009 Hyundai Accent. It shouldn't work, but the result is better than you might expect.

Dream Customs India company also built a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ replica based on a Honda Civic, so the company is no stranger to turning mundane cars into exotic dream machines and there's clearly a market for replica supercars in India.

It's not an exact replica of the Mustang as the ride height and width don't look right, but overall the proportions look surprisingly accurate considering the donor car is a Hyundai Accent. Dream Customs India has done a commendable job replicating the Mustang's headlights, grille, taillights and bumpers.

The illusion is less convincing in most replicas when you step inside the interior, and this is no exception. Dream Customs India has attempted to mimic the Mustang's "double hoop," and upholstery but the replica still has the original Accent's steering wheel, dashboard, and center console.

Dream Customs India doesn't say what's under the hood, but we doubt the Mustang's 5.0-liter Coyote V8 has been transplanted so don't expect it to replicate the intoxicating experience of driving a Mustang at full throttle. In the US, the Hyundai Accent is powered by a 1.6-liter engine producing 120 horsepower and 113 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the front wheels.

Each replica takes around four months to build with pricing starting at 800,000 Indian Rupees (about $10,500) excluding the cost of the donor car.
