Original price: $93,000. Hammer price: Bring a big checkbook.
Well, this was bound to happen. A 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Launch Edition will be crossing the Barrett-Jackson auction stage later this month at its Las Vegas event without reserve. Assuming its original owner wasn't forced to pay any dealership markups, which in some cases went as high as $50,000 for the Launch Edition, then they'll very likely earn back the truck's $93,000 price tag and then some.
Unfortunately, the listing does not provide a mileage count, but we doubt it's beyond the triple digits. This particular TRX LE is VIN No. 307 of just 702 units. Every single one of them was sold out in less than three hours.
All TRXs are powered by the 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 with 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Zero-to-60 mph requires just 4.5 seconds. Power is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission (weirdly and probably in error, the auction listing states it's a six-speed). The Launch Edition stands out not only because of its low build count, but also for the extra features included.
For starters, it's equipped with the TRX Level 2 Equipment Package Group that tacks on cool things like carbon fiber interior trim, a heads-up display, beadlock-capable wheels, the color accent package, and a 19-speaker Harmon Kardon premium sound system. Passengers will further enjoy the dual-pane panoramic sunroof and the bodyside graphics ensure everyone knows this truck is special even when it's parked.
This example also comes with power deployable steps that were dealer-installed for an additional $3,000. Off-roading is certainly not an obstacle for a truck like this thanks not only to its crazy power output, but also the heavily upgraded suspension and 18-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch Wrangler Territory All-Terrain Goodyear tires.
The exterior color choice is the Launch Edition-only Anvil Gray and the interior is adorned with a brushed aluminum center console with LE badging. There's no doubt the TRX is a special truck from the get-go and the Launch Edition is icing on the cake. Let's hope its next owner will actually take this rig off-roading as intended.
