It's the way things go sometimes.
There’ve been rumors here and there regarding certain Europe-only Volkswagens that may or may not make it to the US. But perhaps it’s the Scirocco that US VW enthusiasts have been clamoring for the most, especially the Scirocco R. As the current third generation begins to wind down, many have been hoping that its replacement will make a triumphant US return. And, as you’ve probably guessed by now, that’s not going to happen. For real this time. VW currently has no plans to bring the fourth-gen Scirocco to the US.
The reason is very simple. According to VW board member responsible for development, Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, who recently spoke with Motor Trend, not enough Americans will buy the Scirocco simply because it’s a three-door hatchback with limited cargo capacity and small rear seats. The Scirocco has limited usability and practicality. The five-door Golf, by contrast, doesn’t have those issues, and essentially has "All these things Americans like to have." So there you have it. Americans need to get over their Scirocco-owning dreams once and for all.
