It's been called 'Emotional Ash'.
It's difficult not to love the range of sports coupes sold by Lexus, namely, the RC and LC. While neither is as fast or dynamically capable as competitors from Germany, they do things their own way with old-school naturally-aspirated V6 and V8 engines and bucketloads of style. In Japan, Lexus has now unveiled special editions of both these coupes. We've already covered the stunning LC Aviation which is set to be released early next year, so now we're turning our attention to the RC "Emotional Ash" which was officially launched earlier this week.
Outside, the upgrades include a spindle grille finished in brilliant black paint, along with sporty 19-inch black wheels and trinocular full LED headlamps. The door mirrors and the mufflers also receive the black treatment, and we'd say it looks even better than the 2021 Lexus RC Black Line Special Edition.
In the luxurious cabin, there are natural interior trim inlays for areas like the instrument panel and around the window switches on the doors. A high-intensity coating applied to the Ashwood grain inlays creates varied silver effects when bathed in sunlight. Leather-upholstered seats are equipped to F Sport variants, with others receiving attractive silver stitching.
In Japan, the RC with the Emotional Ash upgrades begins at a price of 6,469,000 Yen (about $61,821 at current exchange rates) for the RC 300 with the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Next is the RC 300h at 6,917,000 Yen ($66,102) and, finally, the V6-powered RC 350 at a price of 7,477,000 Yen ($71,454).
At a time where many manufacturers are ditching sedans and coupes for crossovers, we couldn't be happier that Lexus is sticking by its sexy coupes. In fact, the RC is slated to receive a full update in 2024, so it isn't going anywhere anytime soon - and that can only be a good thing.
