It's been a long time coming for the new Nissan Z, and now that we've finally driven it, we can comfortably say that yes, it is good enough to live up to its famed heritage, and it is most definitely capable of rivaling the Toyota GR Supra. With 400 horsepower on tap from a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6, rear-wheel drive, and a manual gearbox, the new Z is a winner - even if you really need to spend closer to $50k in order to get the differential and brakes to handle all those ponies. But the new Z, which isn't being sold in Europe, is already selling out fast, as some countries have reached their allotted numbers for the Z Proto launch edition model.

The latest country to reach that is Australia, where it has just been announced that the Z Proto has sold out in its entirety. In Australia, it's the higher of two trims, mechanically identical to the main model but available solely in Ikazuchi Yellow with a Super Black roof. It gets 19-inch bronze-colored RAYS forged alloy wheels housing yellow calipers for its brakes, while inside the upholstery is black with yellow accents and yellow stitching. More than that, production was limited to just a few hundred units. Although Nissan wouldn't say how many exactly, it's likely to be fewer than the 240 units available for the American market. However, they are all gone, which leaves only the regular model, equivalent to our Performance spec, available to the public.

"The Z is the ultimate expression of Nissan's sports car credentials and we expected demand to be strong for this incredibly special vehicle," says Adam Paterson, Nissan Australia managing director. "I'm excited to confirm that all Australian production of Z Proto spec is now sold-out."

The Z Proto has sold out before the car has even officially launched down under, with the first deliveries only expected at the beginning of July. In the US, the Z has officially touched down, facing stiff competition from the Toyota GR Supra, Ford Mustang GT, and Chevrolet Camaro SS among others. In the States, the Z Proto is priced at $52,990. Base models, however, start at just under $40,000.
