For the first time, spy shots reveal the upcoming Peugeot-Citroen baby SUV out testing.
We've just received the very first spy photos of the new baby SUV from the French PSA group (which is comprised of Peugeot and Citroen). The model will be based on the Mitsubishi ASX. After the successful co-operation with the first model, the Outlander-based 4007 (and the Citroen C-Crosser) the development of future SUVs will continue. The Peugeot version will likely receive the ‘2008' name, but it's still unclear what the Citroen version will be called. So why is this project so important for the French automakers?
It allows them to offer a mid-size SUV to compete against the Skoda Yeti and Nissan Juke, both of which are quite popular amongst European buyers. In fact, the PSA group is expecting the compact SUV market to grow about 60 percent the next couple of years. As such, they have a targeted sales figure of about 50,000 units for both versions. The new SUV will likely be unveiled at the 2012 Paris show. Power is expected to come from a 1.6 liter HDI diesel with either two-wheel or four-wheel-drive. There will also be a 1.6 liter VTI gasoline engine delivering some 120hp. Photos: CarPix.
