Following the arrival of the new Porsche Boxster S Black Edition, the development of the next-generation 2012 Porsche Boxster is well underway. These latest spy shots show a prototype going for a few laps at the Nurburgring. Under the mule's hood, the upcoming Boxster is likely to have the new 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that Porsche engineers have been developing and will be turbocharged up to around 360hp. The new engine will feature a larger bore than the current 2.9-liter four-cylinder.

That engine will still be offered but will have an increased output of 265hp, up from 252hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. The 3.4-liter Boxster S will churn out 315hp and 266 lb-ft as opposed to the current output of 306hp. The new Boxster will make its public debut at the Detroit Auto Show this January.
