Spied: 2013 BMW FAST: Family Activity Sports Tourer

The Family Activity Sports Tourer joins the CAT (Compact Activity Tourer) and the JOY (Compact Sports Commuter Concept) as part of BMW’s new FWD strategy. By the end of the decade, BMW could have up to 1 million FWD vehicles and Minis produced annually.

The latest installment in BMW's front-wheel-drive series, the 2013 FAST is signaling a new era for BMW vehicles. The Family Activity Sports Tourer may or may not be badged a 1-series vehicle, however it joins the CAT (Compact Activity Tourer) and the JOY (Compact Sports Commuter Concept) as part of BMW's new FWD strategy. By the end of the decade, BMW could have up to 1 million FWD vehicles and Minis produced annually.

Available in both front-wheel and all-wheel-drive, the BMW FAST is based on the UKL1 platform that underpins all the future BMW Minis. Under the hood, the N38 gas engine or the N37 diesel engine will both be available. With a 1.5-liter capacity, outputs of 75hp to 155hp are expected.
