Kia continues development of their K9 large sport sedan whose goal is to take on the Germans.
Kia is clearly on a quest to become a major force in the sport sedan business and these latest spy shots are another clear indicator of just that. The Maserati Quattroporte-resembling 2013 K9 large sedan has just been spotted by our spy photographers while undergoing winter testing in northern Sweden. Based on the rear-wheel drive platform that also underpins the Hyundai Genesis sedan, this is set to be the top-of-the-line Kia model and will be aimed directly against German brands such as Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
We can also expect some design cues from the Kia GT Concept car, such as full LED headlights. Engine options will likely include a 3.8-liter V6 with 333hp, a 4.6-liter V8 delivering 385hp and even the 5.0-liter V8 with a powerful 429hp. But in order for the K9 to be successful in Europe, Kia will need a powerful diesel in the line-up as well. More than likely, the 8-speed automatic transmission will be utilized, but there's also a 10-speed automatic currently in development which could be offered at a later date. The official debut is expected in late 2012 as a 2013 model.
