Spied: 2013 Peugeot 301 Winter Testing

The Peugeot 301 test mule has been spotted again, this time in Sweden.

The last time we saw the Peugeot 301 test mule, our spy photographers were zooming in as hard as they could to snap some good pics of the 5-door French hatchback. Thanks to their diligent work, we have some new photos of the 301 test mule working out in the winter ahead of its eventual release. The 301 mule seen here testing in Sweden is running on the new platform underneath the old body. This is the same platform used in the Citroen C4 and DS4. The wheelbase is a bit wider and shorter than its predecessors.

It is expected to be lighter and have better handling. In terms of power, it should use a wide range of both gasoline and diesel engines, including a diesel hybrid. Engines from the new 3-cylinder line are also expected to be available for the 301. Design is said to be a mixture between the 208 and the SR1 concept, revealing a more elegant and compact body than the current 308 when it's due for 2013. The 301 will serve as the successor to the 308. Apparently the 309 (in name, of course) which was discontinued in Europe back in 1993, still has a negative ring to it. Photos: CarPix
