The new Corvette Z06 will debut this fall.
It's a busy time for Chevrolet right now. Demand for the Corvette Stingray is showing no signs of slowing down as Chevrolet prepares to start production of the 2022 model and the new Corvette Z06 is just around the corner. Last month, Chevrolet dropped the first official teaser for the new high-performance Corvette Z06, allowing us to hear its flat-plane crank V8 scream.
We'll have to wait until the fall for the official reveal, but to whet our appetite our spy photographers have spotted a prototype of the new Z06 tearing up the Nurburgring during final testing. It's still wrapped in camouflage, but the black body cladding has been removed, giving us a much clearer look at the design changes.
Compared to the Stingray, the C8 Z06 has a more aggressive-looking front spoiler with canards on the sides, along with a larger central intake on the front fascia to improve the airflow. More prominent side inlets can also be found on the rear fenders. Thanks to its more aggressive side skirts and flared wheel arches, C8 Corvette has a wider body than its Stingray sibling. At the back, the prototype is fitted with a raised rear wing, a centrally mounted quad exhaust system, and larger air outlets on the corners.
According to reports, the new Corvette Z06 will be powered by a modified version of the 5.5-liter flat-plane V8 found in the C8.R race car tuned to produce over 600 horsepower and rev up to 9,000 rpm. All that power will be sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
From what we heard in the teaser Chevrolet released last month, the C8 Corvette Z06 will sound like a supercar. Chevrolet has confirmed the new Corvette Z06 will go on sale for the 2023 model year after it debuts this fall. This is slightly later than planned as the new Corvette Z06 was originally going to debut last month and go on sale for the late 2022 model year before the pandemic caused delays.
