Jaguar has recently spent some time at the 'Ring undertaking an industry test day with some of its most powerful models. Following the XKR-S Track Version of earlier today, we now have some shots of the potent R-version of the upcoming F-Type. The standard F-type will feature the automaker's new 3.0-liter supercharged V6 with 380hp, a quad-cam engine that draws on key technology used in the current 5.0-liter V8.

This will pitch it against the Porsche Boxster and BMW Z4; however the R-version, distinguished from the standard model by a set of quad exhausts, is expected to sport the V8 to give it a chance against the Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes SLK 55 AMG. The F-Type will start out life as a Roadster but a Coupe version is expected to follow. Jaguar will announce the F-TYPE's technical specs and range details later this year, probably at September's Paris Motor Show, and the car will go on sale in mid-2013.
