The G-Wagon is back and this time more powerful than ever. The oft-favorite of such lyrical luminaries as Kanye West, the Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG comes packing the 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged engine previously seen in the CLS 55 AMG. The revised engine will churn out somewhere between 525-544hp depending on what power-level the engineers at AMG decides. The gas-guzzling truck has been promised to achieve a higher fuel-efficiency rating than previous models of the G55.

Given the nature of the G55, we still expect it to burn its share of gasoline. Some exterior changes have also been made, such as new mirrors and new air intakes. The prototype caught here by our spy photographers appears to have a front bumper slip up into 3 coolers. LED daytime lights are also affixed to the G-Wagen's front headlights. Bigger brakes appear to added to control the truck's more powerful motor. The Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG is expected to debut in January at the Detroit Auto Show. Photos: CarPix
