Last year, Mercedes lifted the wraps off the first ever A-Class sedan for America. The new A-Class will spawn as many as eight new models, including a new CLA and GLA, as well as an all-new GLB, better known as the "baby G Wagon." We've already seen prototypes of the compact GLB undergoing testing, but the uninspired styling has left a lot to be desired since it shares little in common with its larger G-Class sibling. An official debut is expected to happen in the summer, but the baby G Wagon is also expected to spawn hotter AMG versions such as an AMG 35, seen here in new spy shots trudging through snow.

It's easy to tell we're looking at the amped-up AMG version of the GLB, thanks to its sportier front bumper, distinctive AMG grille, wider side sills, and a dual exhaust pipes system, despite Mercedes' attempt to cover it in camouflage.

Based on the same platform as the A-Class means the GLB will share the same engine options as the compact sedan. In the case of the AMG 35 variant, the sporty SUV should pack the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that debuted in the A35 hatchback that produces 301 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

Power will be sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. Stiffer suspension and beefier brakes should also make it more fun to drive. Hopefully, then, these improvements will make up for the uninspired styling.

With the GLB expected to be revealed during in the summer, the AMG variant will likely be revealed later in the year. AMG is also planning a potent A45 variant of the A-Class with over 400 hp, so this engine could also be carried over to the GLB in the future.
