Because sometimes police departments need a truck for light off-road situations.
Ford Motor Company is already a leader when it comes to police vehicles, specifically its Interceptor Explorer. What it doesn't build is an F-150 police vehicle. That's where Steeda enters the scene. Introducing the Steeda Special Service F-150 package, a police-focused pickup truck that's targeted for departments in more rural parts of the country. We've seen previous builds from Steeda, like its cop-ready Explorer and badass Mustang but not a truck, until now.
The truck's suspension and chassis upgrades include a Ford Performance front and rear suspension lowering kit, an optional Fox 4WD off-road leveling kit, a Steeda-built 4WD adjustable 1-1/8 rear sway bar, and a Steeda Truck Performance Alignment. Under the hood, departments have a choice between the 2.7- or 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost engines (both paired to the factory-spec 10-speed automatic transmission), each receiving a Steeda intercooler that offers up to 15 more horsepower, and S&B cold air intake filters that also add power and torque.
Steeda points out that its package can accommodate 87 or 93-octane calibration. The increased output, of course, leads to faster acceleration, though the company did not provide specs. There are also gloss black 22x10 Velgen Wheels wrapped in Nitto NT420V luxury tires for better handling on wet and dry pavement, Ford Performance Mustang/F-150 TPMS Sensors and an activation tool kit, and a Steeda-made, chrome-covered lug nut kit.
The truck pictured here began life as a standard XL 2WD with a 6.5-foot bed. Steeda says it can also custom-build other F-150 packages based on a department's specific needs. 4WD models can also be modified with things like a lift kit, all-terrain tires to enhance ground clearance and entry/departure angles when chasing bad guys off-road
Pricing for the components is available on the company's website. The lowering kit, for example, costs $429.95 while the Fox 4WD leveling kit - only good for 2015-2020 model year trucks - runs for $1,459.95. All components are backed with a limited lifetime warranty.
Steeda does not specifically state that it won't offer these upgrades to non-police customers, but impersonating law enforcement is definitely illegal. But that doesn't mean people can't modify their private F-150s with upgrades like these. Just don't plaster "Sheriff" on the truck's side.
