Stellantis is reportedly investing 160 million euros ($176.13 million) into its plant located in Rennes, France in preparation for the launch of an all-new electric SUV planned for 2025, according to Reuters.

Stellantis says this investment will build a battery assembly workshop along with a plastic molding workshop and that the vehicle that will be built there will sit on the STLA Medium platform. Reuters says the vehicle will be codenamed the CR3 and will succeed the Citroen C5 Aircross as an electric-only vehicle.

This comes on the heels of Chrysler scrapping plans for the Airflow concept in favor of going in a bold new direction. This most likely won't be the vehicle produced there, though, since it's going to be built on the STLA Large platform despite being set to debut in 2025.

The Chrysler vehicle will be built stateside to take advantage of all of those sweet tax incentives. Chrysler is hoping the vehicle it comes up with will disrupt the current electric SUV space, and we have a lot of faith as Stellantis design boss Ralph Gilles has come out and said, "I'm excited. It's my favorite thing I've done since the Viper." The real question is, if it's set to debut in 2025, where will it be built in the US?

The company recently announced it would invest $155 million into three different Indiana plants that will form the base of the STLA Large platform vehicles like the Ram 1500 REV, the upcoming electric Wagonneer S, and Jeep Recon. Currently, there are rumors that the Ram 1500 REV will most likely be built at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan.

A possible option for the Airflow replacement could then be the recently shuttered Belvidere, Illinois plant. Shuttered in February, the plant had previously been producing the Jeep Cherokee and is still most likely in the process of looking for a replacement vehicle or shifting workers elsewhere.

At the same time, Jeep just teased a new electric crossover that will be an entry-level vehicle set to debut in 2025. It will most likely not be sold in the US, and we don't know many details about it. Still, the idea of a Suzuki Jimny-sized EV offroader sounds enticing to us, even if the company is attempting to go further upmarket with its offerings.
