Those who were somewhat disappointed by the all-new Subaru WRX and its somewhat bland styling will soon have redemption. Subaru has just officially announced that the 2015 WRX STI will make its official debut at the Detroit Auto Show later next week. This reveal was predicted for some time but only now has Subaru sealed the deal. Details are still a bit vague at this point, but many predict the new WRX STI will be powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter boxer four.

It'll produce somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. By comparison, the new WRX is powered by a 2.0-liter four that's good for 268 hp. What we can confidently expect to see is the discontinuation of the five-door hatchback; the WRX STI will be sedan only this time around. However, we have our hopes up that it'll look an awful lot like the WRX Concept that was first unveiled in New York last March. We'll have all of the nitty gritty details for you next week from Detroit.
