Even though we've reported that the U.S. won't be getting the all-new 2011 Ford Ranger pickup truck, we've just learned that Ford is planning on an SUV based off the truck's platform. This comes at a time when the Explorer has just completed the crossover route, and frankly, a full-on body-on-frame SUV would be a welcomed addition. The new ranger, internally known as project T6, will support a seven- or eight-passenger sport utility vehicle.

It's mainly because of the Ranger's long-wheelbase and the fact that it would cause heavy competition with the same-sized F-150 that we're not going to see the truck in the U.S. But still, an SUV variation would be a nice replacement. Photos displayed are of the 2012 Ford Ranger
