The iconic Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and that's a big deal for Porsche fans. The original was the first car to wear the RS (Rennsport) badge and has created a lineage of wonderful sports cars, such as the modern-day 911 GT3 RS.

In short, there's plenty to celebrate, and watchmaker TAG Heuer has just the thing to observe this auspicious occasion. The TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 limited edition watch pays tribute to Stuttgart's legendary creation. Like the Carrera RS, the limited-edition watches wear a duo-tone color scheme, with red or blue teamed with white.

The red edition is the most exclusive, with the Swiss watchmaker producing just 250 examples. The case, crown, pushers, and sapphire case back have been finished in 18-karat 5N rose gold. The white dial features a Guards Red frame and detailing, uplifted by rose gold-colored accents. This is paired with an exotic red alligator strap. Unsurprisingly, it's rather expensive, at $23,550.

The blue edition is more affordable at $7,750 and is limited to 500 units. The rhodium-plated indexes and hands are said to recall the car's elegant chrome door handles, mirrors, and window frames. The design mirrors the pricier red edition but is more demure thanks to the polished stainless steel and blue finishes. The cheaper of the two comes with two straps; a sporty fabric strap with Carrera logos, and a more formal steel bracelet.

Both, however, boast detailing that will drive any Porsche fan crazy. Take a peek through the crystal case back; TAG Heuer has customized the movement's oscillating mass to mirror the three-spoke steering wheel of the Carrera RS. Here, the Porsche and TAG Heuer logos are also visible.

While the Carrera name is hugely important to Porsche, it holds a lot of meaning for the watchmaker too. TAG Heuer introduced the Carrera racing chronograph in 1963. Like the legendary 911, it was named after the famed Carrera Panamericana motorsport event.

"The name and spirit of the Carrera are incredibly meaningful and emblematic for both TAG Heuer and Porsche...we wanted to create a tribute watch that would express the character and power of this ground-breaking sports car within our own signature TAG Heuer Carrera chronograph," said CEO Frederic Arnault.

Porsche and TAG Heuer have enjoyed a strong partnership over the years. It's resulted in some fairly spectacular motoring-themed timepieces, such as the $7,050 TAG Heuer Carrera X Porsche. If traditional watches aren't your style, there's even a TAG Heuer smartwatch that syncs to your Porsche, allowing you to change various settings and check on functions.

But if this is too rich for your blood, there are more affordable motoring-themed watches on the market. Casio's Honda-inspired EQB-2000HR is a fine example, and so too is the Seiko Astron watch, inspired by the new Civic Type R. Of course, these all look like excellent value in comparison to the Ferrari-themed Richard Mille UP-01 - that sells for a cool $1,888,000.
