TAG Heuer Smartwatch Is An Extension Of Your Porsche

Technology / 1 Comment

It easily syncs with your Porsche, lets you change the climate control, and even see the car's mileage.

A car-themed timepiece is a great - and often expensive - way to tell the time and retain some kind of connection to your sports car when you aren't driving it. Some of these stylish watches are engineering marvels, with brands like Bugatti and Rolls-Royce often leading the way in this area. You can add Porsche to that list, too, as the German marque has had a long and successful relationship with TAG Heuer. The Swiss luxury watchmaker has now come up with yet another Porsche-branded watch called the Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition. It's the extent to which this connected watch can sync to your Porsche and control many of its features that is particularly impressive, though.

The Calibre E4 is compatible with most of the latest Porsche models including the Macan, Cayenne, 911, 718, and Taycan. Some older models like the third-generation Boxster and its Cayman sibling are excluded, though.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100+ processor and Google's Wear 2 OS power this special watch and gives it the ability to control numerous functions in your car remotely. Using the crisp OLED touchscreen beneath sapphire glass, it's possible to adjust the temperature of the car directly from the watch instead of needing to dig into the MyPorsche app. Customers can also view the car's mileage, battery level, or remaining range.

Some of the more typical smartwatch features include GPS, an accelerometer, a compass, a barometer, and a heart rate monitor. Bluetooth 5.0 manages seamless and quick data transfer, and TAG Heuer promises all-day battery life. The new 45mm model is said to have 30% more battery life than previous generations.

As this is a watch aimed at active individuals, it comes with a black carbon finishing rubber and a leather strap with blue stitching that the watchmaker says allows the Calibre E4 to "endure any conditions." The black ceramic bezel matches the black titanium case.

TAG Heuer went as far as to create an online configurator for the watch where you can choose from leather straps in colors like black, brown, red, and lime. There are several watch faces to choose from, too, besides the default Circuit Porsche edition.

At $2,750, deliveries of the Calibre E4 Porsche Edition are set to begin in September.
