There's less than a week to go before GMC reveals what is expected to be a substantially refreshed version of its Sierra 1500 pickup. The October 21 debut was announced earlier this month and the truck is expected to share a number of its updates with the 2022 Chevy Silverado. To build anticipation for the 2022 Sierra, GMC has just teased the top dog of the range, the Sierra Denali Ultimate. For GMC, the 'Denali' badge indicates the epitome of luxury which is perhaps why the brand describes the new Sierra Denali Ultimate as "the most advanced and luxurious pickup in its class."

The 2021 Sierra Denali comes with a power-sliding rear window, a Bose sound system, adaptive ride control, and premium leather. The pricey Denali Ultimate package then adds goodies like a sunroof, 22-inch wheels, a surround-view camera, and a head-up display. That gives us some idea of what to expect from the 2022 Denali Ultimate.

In GMC's short teaser video, we can see that the new Sierra comes with a revised front fascia, restyled headlights, and a new grille. The daytime running lights also have a new design. We expect the Denali Ultimate to once again come with plenty of chrome exterior detailing.

At the back, the truck's changes are more subtle. Then again, the typical pickup body style doesn't lend itself to imaginative derrieres while still accommodating a practical tailgate and bed.

We expect the new Sierra's cabin to receive a welcome update with nicer materials and a larger touchscreen interface. The truck will also be offered with the Super Cruise system which should make highway driving a pleasure, especially as it can be used when towing. Under the hood, the new Sierra should be a recipient of an updated 2.7-liter turbo-four with 310 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. This engine will be joined by more powerful V8s and likely a 3.0-liter Duramax diesel.

The Sierra is likely to remain a less popular choice in this segment but it should be a lot more competitive with these changes.
