Cadillac is turning itself into a truly cool brand. The Celestiq electric sedan is set to be one of the prettiest cars on the planet, and the hulking Escalade SUV now has a V variant with more power than any other full-size SUV. If that isn't enough, the luxury marque is set to return to racing soon with a car called Project GTP, which will be involved in Le Mans endurance racing. We received a teaser of this back in February, and now Cadillac has given us another sly look at the car while also revealing that we'll see the complete product on June 9.

Little is known about the car thus far, but we have been told that this creation will be taken on by Dallara, with additional support coming from the likes of Chip Ganassi Racing and Action Express Racing. The prototype is expected to debut at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona in January of next year, with the long-term goal being that lessons learned in motorsport can be applied to road cars.

"For nearly 20 years, Cadillac V-Series has brought winning technologies from the racetrack to our performance cars on the road," said Rory Harvey, global vice president at Cadillac in an earlier statement. "We look forward to continuing that heritage by competing in this exciting new chapter at the highest level of international motorsport."

Similarly, while powertrain technologies from motorsport could one day be applied to a future Cadillac CT4-V or similar, the brand identity of Cadillac's road cars is being mirrored in the design of the racer. "While the new racecar will take into account IMSA and ACO regulations, Cadillac's brand characteristics will be instantly recognizable, many of which are seen on our V-Series vehicles today," said Chris Mikalauskas, lead exterior creative designer at Cadillac, when presenting the earlier teaser.

Hopefully, Cadillac will achieve success in the motorsport arena once more, and perhaps a roadgoing hypercar could be the end result. Whatever the future holds in that regard, one thing is for sure: the endurance racing category is going to be an awesome spectacle.
