TEASED: Gymkhana 12 Coming With 862-HP Subaru Wagon And Back-Breaking Stunts

Teaser / Comments

We do mean "back-breaking" quite literally, unfortunately.

Hoonigan will release not just one, but two Gymkhana films this year. Think of this one as a sort of "make-up" after the drift film's star, stuntman, and adrenaline junkie Travis Pastrana, suffered a nearly debilitating injury while filming. Pastrana's injuries included fracturing a hip in multiple places, breaking an L5 vertebra, and pinning his sacrum.

With Pastrana now fully recovered almost a year after the incident, Hoonigan has finished shooting the film, in which Pastrana wheels a family Subaru station wagon like we've never seen. For now, there's a little teaser to tide us over.

Predictably, Hoonigan went big. The "Family Huckster," an 862 horsepower Subaru station wagon was built with a WRX-ish motor. The Huckster is a fresh build from the team, and this upcoming Gymkhana film is a way to show off the capabilities of the new wagon, which includes active aero.

You can hear the madmen behind the build, including the folks from Subaru Motorsport USA, discuss the finer points of the wagon below, but we'll give you a nice highlights reel here.

Subaru and Hoonigan built the wagon about a year ago, and it was heavily inspired by the US Ski Team's Subie wagons of the early 80s, which explains the livery.

The highlights are plentiful, including a big Garrett turbo, design by Khyzyl Saleem (@thekyza for the media-conscious), and wheels inspired once again by the Ski Team's GL wagon. Obviously, the car is built to be as light as possible, with space frame construction and an entirely carbon fiber body.

The boxer-four engine displaces 2.3 liters, and is paired to a 6-speed sequential gearbox for the maximum "rally car." The Garrett turbo is front-mounted, though the radiators have been moved to the rear, just like the old rally cars. On top of that, the block and heads are billet and lifted right from Subaru's rallycross efforts. We're looking forward to seeing it in action when Gymkhana 12 debuts on December 6 at 6 am PT.
