Hyundai's all-electric future starts this month with the reveal of the Ioniq 5, the first dedicated EV that will be sold under the automaker's new Ioniq EV sub-brand inspired by the 45 Concept. This will be one of as many as 23 new dedicated EVs Hyundai Group will launch by 2025. We were recently treated to a glimpse of the Ioniq 5's interior when a prototype was spied undergoing testing, but now Hyundai has released new teaser photos providing a much clearer look at the EV's innovative interior.

The Ioniq 5 is Hyundai's first EV that utilizes the company's new Electric-Global Modular Platform, allowing for a spacious and customizable interior. Teaser images show the cabin trimmed primarily in eco-friendly materials and textiles in response to the increasing demand for more sustainable interiors.

"Ioniq 5 is a statement of design that offers an optimistic look at what customers can expect in the new EV era. The long-wheelbase is translated to a new dimension of space. We designed this special space as a perfect place to recharge - your home away from home," said SangYup Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Global Design Center.

Compared to combustion-powered midsize crossovers, Hyundai's E-GMP allows for an elongated wheelbase and a flat floor. Using a flat floor enables the center console to slide back and forth giving passengers room to enter and exit the cabin on either side when parked in a narrow spot. Hyundai calls this unit the "Universal Island," which replaces the conventional static center console.

The driver and front passenger seats are also equipped with leg rests allowing passengers to relax while the Ioniq 5 is being recharged. For added practicality, all seats can be operated and repositioned, making it easier for adults in the front to care for children and pets seated in the rear of the cabin. Hyundai has also gone to great lengths to ensure the Ioniq 5's interior doesn't harm the environment. In response to the increased demand for "eco-conscious mobility solutions with lower environmental impact," the seats are trimmed in an eco-processed leather that is dyed and treated with plant oil extractions from flaxseed.

Other cabin materials feature textiles sourced from sustainable fibers such as sugar cane bio components, wool and poly yarns, and material woven from fibers made from recycled PET plastic bottles. Surfaces such as the dashboard, switches, steering wheel, and door panels are also coated in a polyurethane bio paint that uses oils from rape flowers and corn.

An overhead teaser shows the interior will adopt a wide dual-screen layout similar to recent Mercedes-Benz models like the A-Class Sedan. In Europe and the UK, a limited edition version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be offered called the Project 45 referencing the original concept to celebrate the EV's launch.

Hyundai hasn't announced any technical details, but thanks to a recent leak we know the launch edition will utilize a dual-motor setup producing 308 horsepower and a 58-kWh battery providing a driving range of 280 miles based on the WLTP cycle. This range will increase to 342 miles when a larger 73-kWh battery pack becomes available for other trims. US availability hasn't been confirmed yet, however, but we'll hopefully find out when the Ioniq 5 debuts on February 23.
