While Lincoln offers electrified models such as the Aviator Hybrid, the luxury brand is yet to introduce a fully electric car. As the world pivots toward electromobility, carmakers are embracing the change and, as such, introducing a slew of battery-powered vehicles. Cadillac, for example, is readying its striking Lyriq SUV, which recently headed into production.

To remain relevant and stay competitive, Lincoln will need an EV in its lineup. Judging by the company's latest teaser, it's set to reveal an all-electric vehicle very soon. The teaser doesn't show much, but Lincoln says the concept will preview the design direction the company is taking with regard to EVs.

Currently, the brand's lineup comprises crossovers and SUVs only, so we can safely assume the upcoming electric concept will take on the popular body style. Based on the surreptitious imagery and video, it appears the newcomer will boast muscular, boxy styling. The front profile appears aggressive and boasts illuminated Lincoln "Cobra Star" badging.

The side profile doesn't appear to stray too far from Lincoln's current vehicles but, then again, this could be an illusion to throw us off. The illuminated badging appears on the side of the vehicle, too. The first quantity of Cadillac Lyriq EVs sold out in less than 20 minutes; if Lincoln wants to make an impact, a Corsair-sized electric SUV would be a license for the carmaker to print money.

Previously, Ford and Lincoln have earmarked the Aviator and Explorer as future electric vehicles. Early indications suggested that future Lincoln electric SUVs would be based on Rivian technology, but it's more likely that the upcoming models would borrow heavily from Ford's ever-expanding range of electric vehicles, such as the Mustang Mach-E.

If we are to believe the rumors from company insiders, the electric SUV is set to enter production by 2024 or 2025. It's unlikely to be an electrified sedan, but we'd love to see Lincoln bring the Continental nameplate back as an electrified sedan. Perhaps it could borrow styling cues from the Anniversary concept seen below.

We won't have to speculate for much longer; Lincoln's all-new electric concept is set to debut on 20 April. Whatever it may be, this is the beginning of a new era for Lincoln.
