TEASED: Lucid Motors To Reveal Air Pure, Air Touring, And Details Of Gravity SUV Next Week

Teaser / 3 Comments

The company also plans to give more details about the upcoming Gravity SUV.

Lucid released a little teaser video yesterday that announced a launch event for November 15th called "In the Air - and Beyond." At first glance, we thought this could be the launch of the Lucid Gravity SUV, but it turns out it's the launch event for the final 2023 Lucid Air models yet to be released: the Air Pure and Air Touring. That doesn't mean the Gravity won't feature, however, as we expect the company to give us more details on its second model.

The event will take place Tuesday, November 15, ahead of the first Air Touring delivery taking place the same evening at the company's Beverly Hills Studio. The event will also offer more information about Lucid's future business plans and more details about the highly anticipated Lucid Gravity SUV.

The entire Air lineup will comprise five models: Pure, Touring, Grand Touring, Dream, and Sapphire. So far, Lucid has already begun delivering the $169,000 Dream model and has also started producing the $154,000 Grand Touring. These are higher-performance models, and Lucid is finally in a place to roll out the cheaper, entry-level units that will help bring in more money for the company.

The base Lucid Air Pure will be the "elemental Lucid Air," according to Lucid. It will initially debut at $87,400 with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration making around 620 hp. Later we should expect a single motor setup sending about 480 hp to the rear wheels only. This model will also come with a metal roof and the company's Mojave PurLux interior.

The Lucid Air Touring will then be the "quintessential Air." This model will start at $107,400 and will feature a decent step up from the base model in terms of features and design. This model will come standard with the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration, making around 620 hp. It can then be optioned with Lucid's unique Glass Canopy roof, which is standard on the higher trim models. This will also be the model that introduces Lucid's DreamDrive Pro driver assistance system.

We're most excited to see what the company has to say about the upcoming Gravity SUV. The model is supposed to hit the market sometime in 2023, and we can assume it'll hit the ground running with anywhere from 480-1,080 hp with a dual-motor AWD setup and possibly a tri-motor variant called the Gravity Sapphire. With seating for seven, it's putting the Tesla Model X and Mercedes EQS SUV purely in its sights.

Lucid hasn't confirmed the range on either of the Air units yet but has previously projected estimates of 406 miles. It's another great step forward for the company and needed to continue to keep would-be buyers interested. The company has already tempered many production estimates this year due to supply shortages and recently filed a new offering with the SEC to raise an additional $8 billion in funds over the next three years to keep production going.

It's not all bad news. The upcoming Lucid Sapphire is just bonkers and has put the Tesla Model S Plaid on notice. Along with announcements of an expansion of its Arizona plant, Lucid has a lot of exciting things on the horizon.
