Last month, Mazda announced that it would be revealing five new SUVs from next year, as well as a new electric platform, but it has been working on new versions of existing vehicles too, including an all-new SUV called the Mazda CX-50. With coupe styling and a better overall package than ever, this will be a stylish crossover that can take the fight to much more upmarket brands. We already have a pretty good idea of what it will look like thanks to our discovery of new patent images, but an official reveal is coming soon, and a new teaser from Mazda tells us that this will take place next week Monday, November 15.

Production of the car will begin in January next year in Huntsville, Alabama, as part of a joint venture with Toyota. The new CX-50 will likely be motivated by 3.0-liter straight-six gas or diesel engines, possibly with turbocharging adding to the appeal. Mild hybrid technology is expected to appear in the range, improving efficiency and driveability. All-wheel drive is on the cards too, although rear-driven options could also arrive. Reliability, power, and efficiency will be the goal here, and safety will be a priority, so expect loads of advanced driver tech to be included as standard with more available on the options list.

Mazda has done a great job of keeping the CX-50's details quiet, so we truly are looking forward to next week's reveal with bated breath. Mazda may seem like a fairly nondescript brand, especially when it comes to crossovers, but the automaker has a habit of building cars to a high standard, and as it develops new engines and powertrain solutions alongside innovative new technological advances, its success is sure to continue to grow. With more mainstream products like this coupe crossover almost guaranteed to bolster sales in a big way, maybe Mazda will finally have the resources and inclination to make a new RX-7 a reality. It's a long shot, but we'll take whatever we can get.
