The 992-generation of the Porsche 911 has, like every other 911, continued to occupy its position as the benchmark sports car in the world. Last year, the 911 Turbo arrived and, in just a couple of days, something even more exciting will make its debut. Porsche just dropped a teaser image of what it calls "the youngest member of the Porsche 911 GT family."
We're pretty certain that this is the new GT3, though. Although mostly hidden in dark shadows, what stands out more than anything else is the giant swan-neck rear wing that will be one of the defining visual and aerodynamic features of this track-focused 911. We've seen the GT3 mostly camo-free in earlier spy shots of the hot coupe so it seems like good timing for an official reveal.
Earlier today, Porsche also shared a couple of pictures of two Porsches sporting giant rear wings in a Twitter post that also seems to be conjuring up excitement for the latest track-focused 911. One of these cars is the Cayman GT4 and the other is what appears to be a 911 GT3 RS. Of course, we already know a few technical details about the upcoming GT3. It'll be powered by a 4.0-liter flat-six engine with over 500 horsepower. This gem of a powerplant will be paired with either a seven-speed PDK or a six-speed manual gearbox. A new multi-link front suspension is a significant departure and should once again make this a formidable track weapon.
The use of thinner glass, reduced sound-deadening material, and the removal of the rear seat have all been implemented to save weight. The only other detail we can pick up in the teaser is a section of the new, slim, wraparound taillights. Lightly disguised versions of the new GT3 show that it'll sport the same full-length light bar fitted to lesser versions of the latest 911, along with a centrally-mounted dual-exit exhaust outlet. On the new hood, there are two new vents, while the headlights appear to be darkened for a sportier aura than the regular 911.
All will be revealed on February 16 (a week tomorrow) when the newest GT Porsche is fully revealed in a livestream event.
