It's definitely going to look unique.
Kia is rumored to be releasing a bunch of new models under a new naming structure soon, but one that is definitely about to arrive is the new Kia Sportage. Kia hasn't revealed too much about this vehicle, but we have seen some spy shots and a couple of attempts at rendering the new crossover, all of which suggest that the design will be radically different for the new 2022 version. Now, the Korean automaker has released a few shadowy teaser images that reinforce that opinion.
As we can see, a new signature lighting element will set the Sportage apart from the rest of the crossovers on offer. This LED DRL stretches from the hood and down into the grille.
A sloping roofline with a wraparound look for the rear window adds to the sporty styling, while new taillights seem to be partially inspired by those of the Stinger. More importantly, we get a glimpse of the cabin too, where Kia is following trends by fitting a large, curved display for both driver info and media. No details have been released, but we suspect that the screen will be made up of a pair of screens measuring around 12 inches each.
Karim Habib, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Design Center, says: "Taking inspiration from an ethos we created where nature meets technology, the all-new Sportage challenges the norm with an adventurous and contemporary exterior and a carefully conceived, beautifully detailed interior."
We know that the new Sportage will feature Kia's new logo and we expect that under the hood will lie a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine with 187 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque for the base model. A 1.6-liter turbocharged engine should also be offered and be paired with an electric motor for a total of 226 hp in its weakest form while a more powerful version is rumored to offer 261 horses and an all-electric range of 28 miles. We'll have to wait for Kia to release more details, which we expect to come in the very near future.
