We're enjoying Nissan's renewed energy and vigor in the automotive market. Recent highlights from the Japanese automaker have been an excellent new generation Nissan Sentra and Rogue, the refreshed Armada, and we've got a new Z sports car to look forward to. Next on the list is a new generation Nissan Pathfinder, and to remind us that it's coming, Nissan has dropped a new teaser video accompanied by a snarly V6 soundtrack as it hurtles down a dirt track. The teaser is brief and doesn't show much, but the message is clear: Electrification and engine downsizing might be all the rage, but you can buy the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder with a naturally-aspirated V6.

The 3.5-liter V6 available in the existing Pathfinder makes 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque and will probably carry over to the next generation model. There's not much need for the Pathfinder to develop more power than that, but Nissan will want to make some headlines. The refreshed Armada's V8 got a bump in power so Nissan could claim it has the most standard power in its class. The midsize SUV segment is the most competitive in the market, so we're expecting Nissan to make a similar claim when the Pathfinder debuts.

Not much is given away about the new look of the Pathfinder in the teaser. It's clearly much more blocky than the soft edged current-generation Pathfinder and sports Nissan's new bold badge. We fully expect a new broad V-motion grille to adorn the front and other styling cues bringing the Pathfinder in line with its contemporary design language. Inside, spy shots have revealed a large central touchscreen for the infotainment system. We also know the new model shares its platform with Altima and Maxima, and from that, we can assume it will be front-wheel drive as standard and all-wheel-drive as an option.

The 2022 model year is being revealed on February 4 alongside the new Frontier truck.
