Just a few days ago, a tri-motor version of the Lucid Air set an unofficial lap record for four-door sedans at Laguna Seca, dethroning the Tesla Model S Plaid in the process. Well, it seems that Lucid wants another record to its name after the EV brand posted a cheeky video on social media.

Titled 'What's Quicker Than Quick?', the eight-second clip shows a Lucid Air at the starting line, parked alongside another famously quick electric sedan, the Porsche Taycan, in what looks like a serious quarter-mile battle.

The Air has already proved itself as a quarter-mile beast, with an official 9.9-second time which is half a second quicker than the Tesla Model S Performance that does the deed in 10.4 seconds. In a comparison of the Porsche, Tesla, and Lucid, only the Air can reach the quarter-mile in below 10 seconds.

Days ago, it was revealed that a tri-motor test mule of the Air did the same run in only 9.3 seconds. Lucid's latest teaser clip could be confirmation of the latter time, although based on the video which features flashing numbers steadily decreasing from 9.9 seconds, the magic number may just be 9.65.

The video ends saying that all will be revealed on September 24, when the official drag race results are likely to be shared. Performance aside, the Lucid Air moves the game on in other key aspects such as range. Its EPA-rated range of 517 miles on a single charge is much better than both its closest rivals.

It looks suitably futuristic, too, and boasts some high-tech interior gear such as a 34-inch curved display and Level 3 self-driving capabilities.

For now, though, all eyes will be on September 24 in what should be another astonishing display of this EV's speed. Porsche and Tesla fans may want to look away.
