Both carmakers have filed a trademark for the same name.
Back in October, we reported that Tesla‘s entry-level sedan will be called the Model E. Although it won’t be introduced for another 18 months, the name was trademarked this August. According to Ford Authority, on December 3 Ford trademarked the same name with the US Patent and Trademark Office. However, no-one is expecting the Blue Oval to return to its original formula of naming cars “Model [insert letter].”
The most likely explanation is that the name will adorn an upcoming electric-powered concept. But how can the carmakers share the same model name? That’s a question far too taxing for our CarBuzz-sized brains, so we will leave it out there for our well-educated readers to answer.
