It's fair to say the debut of the Tesla Cybertruck last year didn't go smoothly - who could forget that cringe-worthy moment when Elon Musk failed to demonstrate the truck's "shatter-proof" glass? Its futuristic, wedge-shaped design has also divided opinions, but the Cybertruck has generated a lot of publicity for Tesla. So much so, in fact, that preorders for the Tesla Cybertruck more than doubled earlier this month.

While we already know the technical specs of the Tesla Cybertruck, Elon Musk recently took to Twitter (where else?) to reveal new details about the production version when it arrives next year. As standard, the Tesla Cybertruck will be available with "upper laser blade lights", but it remains to be seen if these will meet US regulations.

Since the reveal, Elon Musk has also revised the dimensions. Originally, Musk claimed the Cybertruck will measure 84 inches wide, but the production version will be slightly narrower at 82 inches wide.

In addition, Musk revealed the Tesla Cybertruck will come with a payload and towing calculator that provides real-time data to show how the driving experience is being affected. Heavy payloads can affect performance and handling, but Tesla's new tech will improve safety by helping owners adjust their driving accordingly. As Musk explains on Twitter, the payload calculator will "show real-time changes to max acceleration, braking, cornering, speed on gradient & range, latter factoring in route elevation changes & cargo or tow mass & drag impact."

The entry-level Cybertruck is capable of towing more than 7,500 pounds, while the Tri-Motor All-Wheel Drive version has an impressive towing capacity of more than 14,000 pounds. Thanks to the truck's active ride height and active suspension damping technology, the Cybertruck will be able to adapt to different payloads to maximize performance, comfort, and efficiency according to Musk.

Potentially, this could revolutionize the truck industry and give Tesla a huge advantage over Ford and Rivian's upcoming rival electric trucks, the electric Ford F-150 and Rivian R1T. "Active ride height & active damping are game-changing for a truck or any car with a high max/min weight ratio," Musk said.
