The Tesla Cybertruck is delayed until 2022, so you might want to try creating your own off-road Tesla if you have the engineering skills. If you need some inspiration, YouTube channel Grind Hard Plumbing Co. worked with Rich Benoit from Rich Rebuilds to create the ultimate Tesla Model 3 off-roader.

The result looks like it belongs in a Mad Max movie. This isn't the first time we've seen the Model 3 converted into an off-roader, but this latest creation looks more hardcore and capable than the rest. Before it was transformed into an off-road beast, it started life as a dual-motor Tesla Model 3 Long Range.

The car was totaled in an accident and was in bad shape when it was recovered by Rich Rebuilds. Thankfully, Benoit is an expert at salvaging Teslas and was able to get the required replacement parts to get the car running again before the extensive modifications took place. Once the Model 3 was fixed, Grind Hard Plumbing Co. modified the suspension and wheels to increase the ground clearance.

A custom tube bumper was welded to the front end and incorporates a 12,000-pound winch. Part of the hood was also cut out, chunky off-road tires were equipped, and the electric sedan's ride height was raised by two inches.

The modifications certainly make the Mad Max-inspired Model 3 look menacing, but how does it perform off-road? To find out the team took it for a quick test off-road up a steep hill. At one point, the custom EV nearly gets stuck in a ditch but the electric off-roader's immense torque helps get it out of trouble.

The Mad Max-inspired Tesla Model 3 isn't finished yet either, as the team plans to add a full roll cage, spare tire rack and roof tent. In the next episode, it looks like we'll get to see the Model 3 off-roader take a lot of punishment as the preview shows it wading through mud and jumping over a dirt hill.
