Tesla has reclaimed the record at the Nurburgring for the fastest, road-legal electric vehicle (EV) to complete the 12.94-mile track. The record was set by the Tesla Model S Plaid with the Track Package, allowing the electric sedan to finish with a 7:25.231 lap time.

The American EV maker posted an onboard video of the record-setting lap time, which you can watch below. The crown was taken back from the Porsche Taycan Turbo S with a performance package, which set a 7:33.35 lap time back in August 2022. That time, the German EV snatched the record from the Tesla Model S Plaid in a "completely unmodified, directly from factory" form.

Tesla returned to the Nurburgring with the Model S Plaid featuring a Track Package, which includes a carbon ceramic brake kit, 20-inch aluminum forged wheels in Goodyear Supercar 3R tires, track-ready brake fluid, new carbon-silicon carbide rotors, and one-piece forged calipers with high-performance pads.

Moreover, the package allows the EV to unlock a top speed of 200 mph, a handy upgrade for the long straight coming to the final corners. It may have only reached a top speed of 179.6 mph, but at least the ultimate goal of breaking the record was achieved, slashing more than ten seconds over its previous attempt.

The Tesla Model S Plaid is fitted with a tri-motor setup capable of generating 1,020 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. It also comes with an all-wheel-drive system, improving grip and acceleration when tackling corners at the Green Hell. Tesla claims the Model S Plaid can go from zero to 60 mph in 1.99 seconds, making it one of the quickest accelerating EVs ever.

If the Track Package impresses you, Tesla sells it for $20,000. Not only does the package improve performance, but also the brake pedal feel, which is beneficial for daily driving.

Now that Musk has reclaimed the throne, we can expect Porsche to hit back with yet another go. The German marque is currently developing hotter Taycans for its facelift, something we all can watch out for.
