A couple of years ago, Italian coachbuilder Ares Design announced it was creating the world's first Model S Roadster. Now, Ares Design has a proof of concept model and has released details and photos of the project that leaked earlier this week. The result is a sophisticated, sexy, and sporty take on the initial design of the Tesla Model S. However, it's not a two-seater as the original idea was proposed, but a two-door convertible commissioned by a customer. It involved a full design and engineering process to remove the roof, B pillar, and rear doors and create and fit longer front doors.

Problem-solving didn't end with the doors and chassis, though. A new trunk hood designed by Centro Stile has been installed so the roof assembly can be stored when it's folded down. What we can't see are the measures taken to retain the structural integrity of the chassis. Ares Design says it has added strengthening to the side members, beneath the cockpit, and across the rear seating area. The rear seats were removed and replaced with custom made units, and liberal use of hand-stitched ice white leather with orange detailing has gone into creating a stunningly unique interior.

Adding to the sleeker look of a two-door take on a Model S, Ares Design has designed and fitted a carbon fiber aero kit. It polishes off a complete build beautifully, and we hope that it gives Tesla some ideas about its future range. This one is commissioned by a single customer, though, and Ares Design isn't about to reveal how much it cost to create publicly. However, if you have the kind of money to have a coach-built version of a car designed and brought to life, we're sure the Modena-based company will be happy to give you a quote.
