As in the Tesla didn't humiliate the AMG - not the other way around.
When we say this quarter-mile matchup is closer than you think, we mean from the perspective that you should expect the EV to destroy the AMG. In recent weeks, we've seen the Tesla Model S P85D make mincemeat of a Ferrari 550 on the street, and a Dodge Challenger Hellcat look like a scared little kitten. Here, it lines up against a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and the finish is almost neck-and-neck.
With 691 hp and AWD, the Tesla sprints off the line superbly, but the lighter E63, with its 577-hp 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8, soon catches up with both performance sedans crossing the quarter-mile mark in the elevens. There are two races, and both are equally tight.
