The 2015 Ford Mustang Has a Glovebox Knee Airbag

Technology

Your kneecaps are important, after all.

The all-new 2015 Mustang is already an impressive piece of technology. Along with an independent rear suspension, electronic line lock to enable the perfect burnout every time, and plenty of other advanced electronic gizmos, Ford is also making sure its new pony car is safe. Yes, there are airbags, of course, but now there’s also something even more advanced: a newly developed glove box door airbag solely for the purpose of knee protection.

It’s an industry first where an inflatable bladder, in the event of a crash, will cause the glovebox door to propel itself towards the front passenger’s legs. Once deployed, according to Ford, the outer door helps to provide cushioning in a manner similar to a traditional knee airbag. Check out the video ahead to see how it works.
