The last time an all-new Kia Optima premiered, five years ago, it was evident that the South Korean automaker could design great-looking cars. And now there's an all-new Optima and, for a family sedan, it's quite stunning. The 2016 Kia Optima has premiered in New York and it's clear the firm's designers didn't want to mess too much with a good thing. It keeps the previous model's athletic stance but now rides on a chassis that's longer, wider and stiffer for improved ride and handling and a more spacious cabin.

Three engines are on the table: the entry-level and new 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 178 hp, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch. The second two engines are carried over from the previous model: the 2.4-liter GDI four and the 2.0-liter GDI turbo, with 185 hp and 247 hp, respectively. Both are paired with a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Five trim levels will be offered: LX, LX Turbo, ES, SX Turbo, and SXL. Exterior styling is quite something, with a distinctly sporty and Euro-look. Design like this could have easily come straight from Germany. The wheelbase is also slightly longer than before and the vehicle is about 1.0 inch wider.

We particularly dig the swept-back headlights that reach deeply into the fenders. Kia's signature tiger-nose grille is even hot stamped. The interior is clearly German inspired with a driver-oriented cabin sporting a cleaner, more unified design than before. For a family sedan, hands-down we think this is one of, if not the best, interiors out there. Official pricing will be announced later and production will take place in West Point, Georgia.
