Napoleon would understand.
Last month Ford revealed the 2018 EcoSport subcompact crossover at the LA Auto Show. Well, it was actually revealed on Snapchat first, becoming the first car to be revealed on that photo you wish you didn’t take but screw it, it’ll be deleted soon anyway platform. What is the EcoSport? Essentially, a raised Ford Fiesta. Built on the same platform as the Fiesta, buyers will have a choice between a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost or a 2.0-liter four, the latter being all-wheel drive only, and both engines are mated to a six-speed auto.
Ford’s tagline for the EcoBoost is spot-on, “Go Small, Live Big.” So maybe we ought to think of the new EcoSport as something that’ll appeal to Fiesta owners who want to sit up higher. Maybe. But Ford also highlights the standard 8-inch floating touchscreen display with Sync 3 and compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Connectivity? Check.
Storage? There are as many as 30 stowage pockets, bins and hooks. There’s also a rear cargo management system comprised of a movable floor board. Pricing for this Kia Soul, Mazda CX-3 and Buick Encore fighter? It’ll probably start at around $16,000 or so when it goes on sale sometime in 2017.
