The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Is Going To Be Epic, Just Epic

Time to delay that GT3 deposit?

Think the new Porsche 911 GT3 is quite a piece of work? Oh, just wait. According to CarAdvice, Porsche is currently working on an even more extreme flagship 911, the GT2 RS, which will arrive on the scene in 2018. Porsche CEO Oliver Blume told CarAdvice, in regards to building the ultimate 911, that "In the past it was a very famous model of the 911, and maybe in the future we will have a GT2 as well. For the GT2 it’s very typical to have big power combined with the turbo engine.

“Today we can’t talk about the power, but when we launch the car I think you will see at which level we can get to with the car. And we’re still working at it.” As many of you probably recall, the last time there was a 911 GT2 RS was with the 997 generation, powered by a 3.6-liter turbo flat-six with 620 hp. What made the GT2 RS extreme was the fact that, unlike the 911 Turbo, it’s rear-wheel-drive only. That said, Porsche is benchmarking the current-generation 911 Turbo’s output, so expect this new GT2 RS to have around 700 hp. Yes, 700 ponies going directly to the rear wheels. However, unlike with the new GT3, Porsche will not be offering a six-speed manual in the GT2 RS; it’ll be the seven-speed PDK gearbox only.
