The 2020 Mazda3 Just Became A More Appealing Buy

Safety Technology / Comments

Sales of the Mazda3 have been dire, but this could improve the situation.

Mazda already has a stellar reputation as the Japanese automaker makes some of the safest cars on the road. Recently, the Institute for Highway Safety compiled a list of the safest 2020 model-year cars it has tested. Of these, five Mazda cars were awarded the highest Top Safety Pick+ award.

Now, just to add to Mazda's bragging rights, the 2020 Mazda3 has received five-star ratings by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in frontal crash, side crash, and rollover tests, earning a five-star safety rating overall - the highest government safety ratings a vehicle can earn.

"We are proud that the 2020 Mazda3 has earned NHTSA's top rating for crashworthiness," said Mazda North America President Jeff Guyton. "Mazda's i-Activsense advanced safety features on the Mazda3 help provide even more peace of mind for the driver, helping enhance our customer's driving experience.

Helping the 2020 Mazda3 sedan and hatchback achieve the high safety rating are crash avoidance systems recommended by NHTSA including forward collision warning, lane departure warning, crash imminent braking, and dynamic brake support. As standard, Mazda's i-Activsense safety systems include smart brake support, radar cruise control with stop & go, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and driver attention alert, as well as automatic on/off LED headlights, high beam control, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

The 2020 Mazda3 sedan and hatchback have also earned the highest awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, each earning a Top Safety Pick+ award.

The Mazda3 sedan and hatchback were redesigned for the 2019 model year. Unfortunately, despite the recent refresh, sales have been disappointing. Worryingly, in 2019 Mazda3 sales were down by 21.5 percent. Let's hope these safety awards from the IIHS and NHTSA can help Mazda generate some much-needed publicity to help boost sales of the stylish Japanese sedan and hatchback.
