Production of the third-generation Chevrolet Colorado started this month, which means the online configurator is up and running.

It's only available in a short-box crew cab configuration and starts at $30,695 with rear-wheel-drive only. Base and mid-spec models are powered by a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine producing 237 horsepower. Four-wheel-drive jacks the price up to $33,995. You can play and put together your ideal truck, but we've already gone ahead and priced out the ultimate 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. We knew it wouldn't be cheap based on the pricing information we received late last year.

The LT trim with 4WD starts at $36,395, then jumps to the Trail Boss at $38,495. The Z71 comes in at $41,395.

Topping the range is the $48,294 ZR2 trim with its 2.7-liter High-Output engine making 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. And that's our starting point.

The first option we took on the Colorado ZR2 is Radiant Red Tintcoat paint for $495. Adding the 17-inch bead-lock capable wheels also adds the Desert Boss Special edition kit, which includes, amongst other things, underbody cameras, a safari bar, black nameplates, decals, and a bed-mounted sport bar. That takes our price up to $58,085.

Switching to a leather interior, curiously, adds the Safety Package and ZR2 convenience package, which brings a slew of additions like blind zone alert and steering intervention, rear cross-traffic alert, rear park assist, heated mirrors, rear center armrest, ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, and wireless charging.

It also boosts the price up to $59,575. We also added yellow seat belts for $50. At this point, the Chevrolet Colorado is getting expensive, but it's close to being kitted out, and time to add some final packages.

The Technology Package adds adaptive cruise control, rear pedestrian alert, and HD surround vision for an extra $950. However, we couldn't add the $1,195 flex utility package without losing the bead-lock wheels and their associated kit.

We could add the Recovery Package, complete with winch, for $2,405 and taking us up to $63,365. Then it's time for the options, like a $40 license plate bracket, a $120 cargo tie-down kit, plus some more expensive pieces like side steps, a light bar, and a power sunroof. Recovery hooks, a black exhaust tip, a steel drive shaft, and a Kicker audio system finish off the exterior list.

A Bose audio system and interior lighting bring us to a whopping $69,884, including the $1,495 destination charge.
