Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath has announced on Twitter that his company has hit its target of delivering 50,000 vehicles in 2022. A white Polestar 2 sedan (pictured below) was delivered to its new owner at the Polestar Marin dealership in California in the year's final days. That caps a stellar year for the Swedish electric automaker that had been working hard to meet demand while working on its next cars.

All the while, it has been continuing to push forward the agenda of sustainability in vehicles and transparency in the construction process of electric vehicles, particularly for batteries.

During Polestar's third-quarter of 2022 earnings call, Ingenlath said, "We are a real car company, we are in production, we are putting cars on the road today, and we are delivering on our ambitious growth plan." That wasn't just hot air for investors, though, because as well as meeting its delivery goals, Polestar partnered with rental car giant Hertz to provide up to 65,0000 EVs. A few months later, it debuted its first SUV, the $84,000, 300-mile range Polestar 3.

The Polestar 4, a smaller SUV, is due to debut sometime later this year and will be followed by the Polestar 5 sports sedan in 2024. Capping off the Polestar product range will be an electric roadster called, inevitably, the Polestar 6. Don't expect the latter to arrive until the end of 2026.

Polestar is owned by Chinese automaker Geely, which also owns Volvo and Lotus, among other (overseas-only) brands. Polestar is continuing to make its own mark on the industry with forward-thinking design and technology.

Including the 50,000 delivered in 2022, there are now over 100,000 Polestar 2 sedans on the road. That's a fantastic achievement considering the car was launched in 2020 - just before the Covid global pandemic struck and wreaked havoc everywhere. It was the first vehicle to arrive with Android Automotive OS with Google built-in, and since its launch, it's had more than 13 over-the-air updates - including last month's paid update to increase power to 476 horsepower, up from 408 hp.
