Japan's latest takes on a pair of Germany's stalwarts.
We love it when Auto Express puts together comparison videos like this one. What we have here is a pair of well-known German supercars, the Audi R8 V10 and the Porsche 911 Turbo doing what they do best, but they're pitted up against a new player in the supercar game, the all-new Acura/Honda NSX. It's been years since a Japanese manufacturer has put together such an attractive package, especially at the price point it has, but has their absence from this realm cost them valuable R&D? Luckily we can find out.
We know the Germans are good at this game, and we know the Acura is an amazing piece of engineering, but how do they compare on the track?
The all-wheel-drive Japanese contender comes to the fight with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 that has assistance from a trio of electric engines that combine to produce 573 hp, but the car is heavy at 3,803 pounds. The normally aspirated R8 features a rev-happy 5.2-liter V10 with 540 hp on tap, but it is lighter at 3,649 lbs and has that proven Quattro all-wheel system. From the Porsche stable we see another fast all-wheel-drive sports car with 532 hp coming from a rear-mounted, 3.8-liter flat-six with a pair of turbochargers making things interesting. On paper the cars are quite close, making this comparison worthy of being done. Which is faster though? Well you'll have to watch to find out, but as far as looks go, we'll take the NSX thanks.
