Ever wonder why enthusiasts love wagons?
For those enthusiasts with non-enthusiast friends that wonder what the value in a family station wagon is, this is the video to show them. That's because its two stars are the Nissan GT-R and the Audi RS6 Avant with the performance package. On the outside, the two cars couldn't be more different. The Audi looks like a standard family wagon but the GT-R is a sports car. Based on looks alone, the Nissan is the obvious gearhead's choice because it's got two doors, is low to the ground, and looks sporty.
But looks can be deceiving as this Audi so kindly exemplifies. Though it has the cargo capacity of an SUV, the fact that it's low to the ground and is outfitted with Audi's best suspension tuning wizardry only magnifies the potent 4.0-liter twin turbo V8's power, which happens to lie in the neighborhood of 605 ponies and 516 lb-ft of torque.
Despite having only 35 more horsepower than the Nissan, it's more expensive and slower to 60 mph, but as we can see from observing these two hustle around a track, the Audi can hang with cars far into the sports car league. Making things better is that after the workout on the track, the Audi owner can drive to school, pick up the kids, and then hit the grocery store, all while using the same car. And that, non-enthusiasts, is why gearheads love wagons.
