Bentley builds some of the world's finest luxury cars and deals with a highly discerning client base that expects the very best, but sometimes even the best mess up, and oh boy, does Bentley know how to mess up. The Bentley Bentayga, the company's first-ever luxury SUV was introduced in 2015, and in November of 2016, it was hit with its first US recall. A few years passed without incident, but in June of 2020, this premium land yacht was once again hit with a serious recall affecting the fueling system. Just as we thought the dust had finally settled, the Bentley Bentayga has been struck by yet another recall, this time for incorrectly-installed second-row seats.

The British automaker has officially filed a safety recall with the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) for 1,923 Bentley Bentaygas manufactured between July 10th, 2020, and February 22nd, 2022. Bentley first became aware of this issue in January of 2022 after performing a sled test, and blamed incorrect assembly over incorrectly manufactured parts, as it states in its NHTSA report.

"The reason for recalling affected vehicles relates to a build process concern and not a fault with parts," reads the report. "As such, it is not anticipated that any parts will need replacing." The faulty second-row seat assembly is procured by Bentley through Swiebodzin-based Adient Poland, and Bentley is basically saying that it had no idea how to install the seat railings. "Production was unaware of the published supplier assembly and installation instructions," adds the report. "Seat rails were moved in production without knowledge of the potential consequences."

It turns out that Bentley did not properly align the second -ow seat rails on certain Bentayga vehicles, which could lead to the seats moving in the case of an accident. That doesn't sound ideal, but at least it's better than having your Bentley burst into a ball of flames. Authorized Bentley dealers will be checking the second-row seats and resetting the seat rail position. It is expected that such a session will take around an hour. Bentley dealerships will be notified of the recall on 2 May 2022, and Bentayga owners will be notified on May 16th. Despite these life-threatening safety issues, the Bentayga (and the rest of the Bentley lineup) continues to sell in record numbers.
